PAT DURISH
Social worker Psychotherapist
I have 20 years experience in private practice working with individuals, couples and families.
I believe the foundation of the therapeutic relationship is the compassionate, curious presence of the therapist, which allows the client to safely explore all aspects of their experience. We gain a sense of freedom and joy from being honest and open with ourselves.
About
I am a registered social worker. In addition to 20 years’ experience in private practice, I have worked at a number of community based mental health agencies in the area of children’s mental health, domestic and gender based violence and with the LGBTQ+ community. I have also worked as a policy analyst with national and international non-governmental organizations, and as a researcher and educator at the University of Toronto (Women and Gender Studies, Sexual Diversity Studies and Equity Studies) and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (Department of Adult Education and Counselling Psychology).
I have appeared as an expert witness on trauma before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, Provincial and Federal Court. I have provided assessments in support of individuals and families including refugee claimants and couples negotiating custody plans.
